Not far off the mark

Wales could have scored a hatful last night, so my 1-0 prediction now seems somewhat cautious.  An inspiring performance from Jason Koumas, back from suspension, gave Wales the lift they needed (why is this man not playing in the Premiership?).  An absolutely stupendous goal from the young Gareth Bale, put the icing on the cake.

Can Wales qualify?  If they win their next two games then they’re definitely in with a shout.  Who are they playing next?  Oh, yes.  Czech Republic and Germany.  Hmmm.

England predictably did the business 3-0, but that cannot disguise the god-awful first-half performance that had the travelling England fans spouting vitriol at the players and manager as they left the field at half time.

The English have got Steven Gerrard to thank, and him alone,  for rescuing this game.  The best decision that Second-choice Steve never had to make was ommitting Lampard because of a wrist injury.  Gerrard, as the attacking central midfielder, terrorised the Andorrans (well, in the second half anyway) and with Lampard out the way, England could finally play with two out-and-out wingers.

Can they still qualify?  Bollocks can they!

Predictions

Wales 1 v 0 San Marino

Wales narowly beat San Marino with a single Craig Bellamy goal, despite retaining the majority of possession.

Andorra 0 v 3 England

McLaren’s ineptitudes are quickly forgotten as England trounce the Andorran minnows.  Rooney with a brace, and Gerrard with a 25 yard blammer.  Unfortunately, this will mean that McLaren will keep his job, and England will now fail to qualify for Euro 2008.
