“As long as we beat the English…” the song goes

The memory of a piss-poor 6 Nations performance was wiped out on Saturday, as Wales turned on the performance of the season to steam-roller England in the final match of the tournament.

I watched the game in the sports club with, amongst others, an English mate of mine.  “What I don’t get”, he said, “is this ‘as long as we beat the English’ mentatlity.  You played shit for the whole tournament, but because you beat us, everything is alright.  I just don’t get it.”

“That’s because your English”, I said.

New Car

Finally, last night, four months after writting off my old VW, I picked up my brand, spanking new Mazda 6 TS2.

The wreckage after rolling my carThe accident before Christmas left me having to borrow a car for three months.  My father-in-law kindly offered me his old car to get me back and forth to work, which was great, although having to drive around for all this time in the old Citroen ’something-or-other’ has been a somewhat humbling experience.

Before long I had to return old Citroen ’something-or-other’, which was supposed to coincide with the arrival of my new car.  Only thing is, my new car didn’t arrive.  Well, it did, just in the disguise of a car model that I hadn’t actually ordered.  So, carless again.

I have a very understanding boss. He decided to hire me a car until the new one arrived.  I thought he was joking on the phone to the hire company when he asked for the smallest, cheapest car available.  Turns out he wasn’t.  So, for the last three weeks I’ve been driving around in this.

Mazda 6 TS2 in phantom blueI think I’ve been humbled enough, chugging around in cars too small for grown men.  Just glad to be back behind the wheel of a decent car.
