Freetime usually centres around football. Having played for donkey’s years, I now concentrate on coaching. I did play once this season. Joined the boys as a sub, but ended up coming on early in the game because of an injury, but at 36, old legs, and an expanding waistline, aren’t particularily condusive to 90 minutes of football.
I’ve been coaching for a number of years now, with my club Kilgetty FC, and getting my qualifications along the way. I’ve almost completed the UEFA B-licence now. For those of you who don’t know, that’s 2 badges off the Pro Licence which is required for the big boys in the Premiership.
I dream of working with a professional club some day, but with only about 250 potential jobs across the whole of the football league, this is extremely unlikely. I was fortunate enough to be asked by the Pembrokeshire/Swansea City FC Football Academy to coach one of their young teams recently. So, I suppose that’s a start.
When I’m not coaching, I’m usually watching. Premiership, Championship, League One - if its on the box I’ll watch it. Whatever the standard, it’s always enjoyable to watch. Most of all though, watching the mighty Liverpool at Anfield has to be one of the best experiences a fan could enjoy. I’ve supported the club, since my first day at school, when the big lads came over to me in the playground and demanded to know who I supported. Not wanting a beating, a quickly picked a team at random, “Liverpool” I shouted, having heard the name on telly somewhere. And that, was that. As any true supporter knows once you have chosen your team, you are with them to the end. Through the good times and the bad.
